KelloCel™ HEC-Hydroxyethyl Cellulose

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose HEC.jpg

KelloCel™ E series, which is Hydroxyethyl Cellulose. It is a white to off-white cellulose ether that is hot and cold water soluble, but have limited organic solubility. It has excellent water retention, film-forming, salt tolerance, and thickening functions. KelloCel™ E series possesses excellent color compatibility, making it the ideal additive for latex paint applications.

KelloCel™ E series can also be used in other industrial applications such as oil drilling, textile dyeing and printing, binders, adhesives, personal care and etc. It is used to produce solutions having a wide range of viscosity. Such solutions has typical Non-Newtonian flow characteristic.

KelloCel™ E series has unique combination of water. Water solution is smooth, homogenous solution , and good flow and leveling. An idealized structural formula of KelloCel™ E is shown .

The three hydroxyl groups of each of the anhydroglucose units of the cellulose are activated with sodium hydroxide. Subsequently these groups are etherified with ethylene oxide to form the hydroxyethyl ether of cellulose. Ethylene oxide, reacting at previously substituted hydroxyl groups, can polymerize to form a side chain.
